Openstack Cinder Volume for Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and above
Overview
Cinder includes two Windows specific volume drivers that we contributed for managing the Windows iSCSI Target Server and Windows File Server (SMB) shares.
Both drivers are supported by Nova for both KVM and Hyper-V compute nodes. When used in conjunction with the Failover Clustering and Active Directory charms, the nodes become a Scale-Out File Server cluster, which together with the SMB3 protocol provides high availability and scalability features for Hyper-V compute nodes volumes management.

The Cinder Volume deployment can be configured to use one of the two supported drivers:
1 2 |
cinder.volume.drivers.windows.windows.WindowsDriver cinder.volume.drivers.windows.smbfs.WindowsSmbfsDriver |
If the volume driver is set to cinder.volume.drivers.windows.smbfs.WindowsSmbfsDriver, the volumes-path value is where the required SMB share will be created.
If volume driver is set to cinder.volume.drivers.windows.windows.WindowsDriver, the volumes-path value is where the ISCSI virtual disks will be created.
